Indycar Detroit Race #2 2017

 

 

Indy 500 winner Takuma Sato grabbed the pole for Race 2 of the Dual in Detroit, but it was Graham Rahal who once again sat in victory lane after 70 laps.  It was Rahal's 6th win of his career and he became the first driver to sweep the Detroit weekend by winning both races.

2017 Josef Newgarden Indycar Update Detroit Race 1

Josef Newgarden started 9th and finished 4th
in Indycar's Race 1 at Detroit's, Belle Isle.

 

 

He tied his highest finish in his 10 races in Detroit, having finished fourth in Race 2 of the Dual in Detroit last year.

He had the fastest lap of the race at 114.007 and although he didn't lead a lap, he did run as high as second.

He enters Race 2 in Detroit 6th in season points.

2017 Indycar Dual in Detroit Race #1

Graham Rahal dominated the 1st Dual in Detroit after winning the pole and leading 55 of the 70 laps in the race. 

 Scott Dixon had a tremendous run with an injured foot and ankle after his scary crash at Indianapolis but didn't have enough speed to take the win from Rahal.

Josef update 101st Indanapolis 500

Josef started 2nd and finished 19th in his 6th Indianapolis 500.

 

 

Josef got caught up in a crash late in the race which put him back in 23 place.  He suffered minor damage and was able to get in a few more laps and he finished 19th.  He ran in the Top 10 during the mid part of the race, running as high as 5th, but he was never really in contention.
Josef completed 186 of the 200 scheduled laps with 9 pit stops at an average speed of 144.18 mph.
It was Newgarden's worst finish at Indianapolis since his 30th place finish in 2014.  He now has an average finish of 19th in six Indy 500's.

He is now 8th in Indycar Season Points.

Takuma Sato Wins 101st Indy 500

The 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 was an exciting race that saw another first time winner drink the milk and wear the coveted wreath in victory lane.  Although it was Formula One driver Fernando Alonso who received the most attention this month of May, it was another former F1 driver who earned himself a baby Borg Warner trophy.
Takuma Sato put on a fantastic drive to redeem himself after his pass for the lead on the last lap in 2012 left him in the wall.  The first Japanese driver to ever win the Greatest Spectacle in Racing beat out Helio Castroneves who was trying for the record books himself as the first foreign four time winner of the Indy 500.

1. Takuma Sato:  The third former Formula One driver to win the Indy 500 in the past four years.

2. Helio Castroneves: His third runner-up  finish at Indy to go with his 3 wins.

3. Ed Jones:  Continuing his strong rookie season, Jones drove a Dale Coyne car to it's highest finish ever at the Indy 500.

4. Max Chilton:  A very strong run for the sophomore driver.  Coaching from 3 time Indy winner Dario Franchitti seems to be paying off.

5. Tony Kanaan:  Always runs strong at the Brickyard.

6. Juan Pablo Montoya: Even as a part time driver you can never count Montoya out at Indy.

7. Alexander Rossi: Last year's winner looked strong to repeat early in the race but ran into some problems in the second half of the day.

8. Marco Andretti:  He ran a solid race although he was never a contender.

9. Gabby Chaves: A fantastic finish for Gabby as it was Harding Racing's Indycar debut.

10.  Carlos Munoz: A solid finish for Carlos running for A.J. Foyt.
