PS:  I have been to 4 races that Josef has finished in 2nd place.
I told him before the race at Watkins Glen that I hope to see him win a race in person sometime.
He is so nice that after not doing well in the race and all his interviews he came up to the fence by the pits where I was standing and said he was sorry he didn't win the race for me to see.
Thanks, Josef.
That's why I will always be your biggest fan!!!

at the Pocono 500

Power anticipated Josef's move to the inside on the final laps and so Newgarden couldn't get around and had to settle for second.

2017 Honda Indy Toronto

Indy Toronto 2017

The streets of Toronto were no match for three of the 'young guns' of Indycar racing as Josef Newgarden, Alexander Rossi and Canadian James Hinchcliffe grabbed the seats on the podium.  A first lap tangle involving points leader Scott Dixon and Will Power left the three remaining Penskes, and Graham Rahal in the top spots.  It was a well timed pit stop that gave Newgarden the lead on lap 25 and he held that position for most of the rest of the race.
The win gave Josef his 2 win of the year racing for Roger Penske, and the fifth win of his 6 year Indycar career.

Josef Newgarden GP of Indianapolis 2017

Josef started 3rd in his 4th GP of Indianapolis,
but finished 11th
after two penalties for pit speed violations late in the race.

It was his highest finish ever in the Indy GP, but the lowest finish since he started driving for Roger Penske this season.

Josef's comment on the race:
Quote: "I don't know what happened. I think we ran into some sort of glitch and they dinged us two times for speeding on pit road. It was a tough day for us. We had a really fast Hum by Verizon car. We really didn't struggle with much today. We started a little slower than we had hoped, but at the end the car was a rocket. I’m disappointed for our guys because we did everything right and we had great stops, we just had a little glitch there. We had a great racecar and just couldn't capitalize. I think we had a car that could have been a podium car, maybe even a second-place car. We just didn't capitalize today. Congrats to Will though. He was strong all weekend long."

Josef is still 3rd in Indycar season points leading into the Indianapolis 500 on May 28th.
He is looking to improve on his third place finish in last year's 500.

Josef Newgarden wins GP Alabama 2017

Josef won the GP of Alabama!!!!
Again!
Josef returned to the site of his very first Indycar win, Barber Motorsports Park, and won for the second time in three years!

Josef started seventh and ran really strong all day long.  He made some really neat passes during the race including one on Scott Dixon for second place in the closing laps.   When Josef's teammate Will Power had to pit for a cut tire, Josef got the lead.  Scott Dixon was right behind him with twice the amount of Push to Pass seconds left, but Josef still managed to hold him off for the final 12 laps.  It was Josef's 4th win of his Indycar career and his first driving for Roger Penske.

Josef is currently 3rd in the Indycar points standings, just 7 points behind leader Sebastien Bourdais.

Up next for Josef the Phoenix Grand Prix
where he finished 6th last year in his first visit there.

Will Power sat on the pole and dominated much of the race before a punctured tire forced him to pit with just over a dozen laps remaining.  Newgarden inherited the lead and held off a hard charging Scott Dixon.

Josef Indycar update Long Beach 2017

Josef started 8th and finished 3rd
at Indycar's GP of Long Beach

It is his first podium driving for Team Penske and his highest finish ever on the streets of Long Beach.

Josef ran as high as 2nd during the race and was strong all day, but just didn't have enough to try to race for the win.

Josef's last podium prior to Long Beach came in September 2016 at Watkins Glen while driving for Ed Carpenter Racing.

Josef is currently 5th in the Indycar points standings, 34 points behind leader Sebastien Bourdais.

Josef Newgarden Indycar GP of St. Pete 2017

Josef Newgarden's busy Indycar offseason came to an end in St. Petersburg, Florida.
His move to a much bigger team than he had at Ed Carpenter Racing and his move from Indianapolis to Charlotte to be closer to the Penske shop had to be quite an adjustment.
Expectations are high for one of Indycar's brightest stars as he begins this new phase of his career with Indycar's super team.

Josef was not in the first three weekend practices, but managed to get the car stronger for qualifying and started in 4th in Row 2 alongside James Hinchcliffe.  Fourth was the highest he would run all day despite having a competitive car.  He did not pit early and when a yellow came out during the pit window he ended up losing a lot of positions.  He ran the rest of the race around tenth place.  He ended the day finishing eighth, his best finish ever at the GP of St. Pete.

Josef started 4th and finished 8th.

Josef Newgarden Texas Part 2 Update

The Indycar race at Texas Motor Speedway finished two and a half months after it started.
Josef was there, healthy and whole but wasn't allowed to race because of his terrible crash in the first part of the race in June.

(Josef is just 10 points out of 3rd in the season points standings.)

He finished last due to the earlier crash, so he spent the race as a spectator & security guard???, protecting and cheering on his boss Ed Carpenter.

On to Watkins Glen!!!!
Good Luck Josef

Josef Newgarden Update Mid Ohio 2016

Josef finished 10th at Mid Ohio!

That's usually not too good of a finish for him anymore, but since he was hit twice during the race, it was great that he could end up in the Top Ten.
Plus he moved up a position to 4th in the season standings!

He had a really good car and started third.

For the second race in a row a Penske driver took off Josef's back bumper pod and neither was penalized.  (Montoya at Toronto, Will Power at Mid Ohio).   Later in the race when Josef finally caught up to the field Mikhail Aleshin's crew sent him out right into Josef who was pitting.
Poor Aleshin may have won his first Indycar race if not for the contact, that was neither driver's fault.

Can't wait till Pocono where Josef finished second last year,
and I get to be at the track!!!!

Josef Newgarden Update Toronto

Josef started 8th and finished 22
An early bump by Juan Montoya took off his back bumper pod and then he ran really strong but had a problem with a section of curb that was coming apartJosef crashed out on lap 58.

That finish moves him back to 5th in point standings.

On to Mid Ohio!

Newgarden Road America Update

It was Josef's first time racing at Road America in Indycar,
and he did not want to miss it.

Hope he's not hurting too much after that 4 mile road course.

Now Josef stands 5th in points.

His teammate Spencer Pigot (also an Indy Lights champion) finished right behind Josef in 9th place.

Josef Newgarden's hurt hand and shoulder won't stop him from driving at one of his best tracks, Iowa.  He will be testing Wednesday and racing there in two weeks. Trying to better his two second place finishes there in the last two years.

Good luck Josef!!!

Josef Newgarden's weekend at texas

The Good Part of Josef's weekend.

1.  He qualified 5th and had a really strong, really neat looking Emerald green car.

2.  The Firestone 600 in Texas was rained out on Saturday night, and the neat thing about rain delays is that it gives the drivers lots of free time.  Some of them, like Josef, were really nice and went up into the stands to hang out with the fans!

3.  Josef got really bored and silly and goofed around a lot.
He was interviewed on NBCSN with Ed Carpenter, and he gave everyone some tips about social media, and reading twitter fast.

Thanks for tuning in tonight @IndyCar peeps. The rain always ruins our fun! pic.twitter.com/w9RH0oPTQa
3.  The race started on Sunday afternoon and Josef was running in the Top 5 and even leading through the first 40 laps.

The Bad Part of Josef's weekend.
(but it turned out a lot better than it looked)

While passing Conor Daly on the outside, Conor lost grip and turned sharp right into Josef.  Josef went on his side and head first into the wall.  It was very, very scary.

Back to the Good Part.
Despite it looking really, really bad,
Josef only had a fractured clavicle and a bone in his right hand.
I'm sure that he hurts a whole lot, but hopefully he will be back racing soon.

post by Alex, age 8
PS  I'm really glad I was at my violin recital and didn't see the crash live or
I would've been super scared for him.
By the time I got home and watched it  on tape I had seen on twitter that he was basically ok. :)

Dual in Detroit #1 Josef Newgarden Update

Josef got a great new teammate for the
Duals in Detroit.
Spencer Pigot will drive the #20 Fuzzy's Vodka car at the remaining street and road courses this year!

Josef Newgarden started and finished 14th in the first race at Detroit's, Belle Isle.

He ran as high as 7th during the race, and was running a solid 9th in the closing laps when he had a problem with the engine.
He managed to nurse the car around for the last few laps but dropped from 9th to 14th for the finish.

He still is 4th in points, tied with Carlos Munoz.
